FreeStatePlus: “Brouwer lifts Caps over Bruins”: Capitals send Defending Cup Champs to the Brink
What has turned out to be perhaps the most physical and stingy defensive series. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs so far, turned into a shootout today. As the Capitals beat the defending Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. 4-3, which is trust me in a hockey is a shootout. The Capitals defense and goaltending has been solid for most of this series. Something they didn’t get in the playoffs the previous four seasons. Having what looked like a Stanley Cup contender, each of those seasons. But getting let down by their goaltending, the last four seasons. They’ve had five starting goaltenders, they haven’t been the Montreal Canadians with Patrick Woy. Or the Detroit Red Wings of the 1990s with Chris Osgood. To slap myself on the back, I’m pretty good with these names. Especially considering I’m not a hockey expert but I am a Die Hard Washington Capitals fan. Bur this series, they have been getting that goaltending. The Bruins offense came to life today but the Capitals outscored them 4-3.
The Bruins are the defending Stanley Cup Champions and the last thing you want. When defending a championship, is to face a tough first round series. Especially when your the 1st Seed but the Bruins aren’t playing a traditional 8th Seed in the Capitals. This is a team that was expected to contend for the Stanley Cup but had a very inconsistent season. And look to be getting hot at the perfect time. And have pushed the defending Stanley Cup Champion to the brink of elimination .
